Today’s ride was also a beautiful one. However, unlike yesterday when were we’re all running on pure adrenaline, today we were feeling what we had done the day before. I don’t think my legs have ever been so tight in my life. Steph and I did the ride together, at a quite lovely pace :)
Nicole and Lindsey riding by us at Granby Lake!
We rode a ten mile loop around Granby Lake which was challenging yet worth the view. It was nice to have a relaxed and quiet ride and just kind of “recover” I suppose. When we got to the lunch spot on the lake, I swear the temperature rose 10 degrees, it was so hot. We shed some layers and headed out for the second half of the ride.
Kristie’s brother Scott lives in Breckenridge and is a P2S2009 alum, and met us for the second half of the ride. Much to my disappointment, I did not really get a “second” wind after lunch, like I was hoping…haha. The second half of the ride proved just as challenging as the first – mostly due to our general exhaustion. The good news was, we got to ride in on a 33 mile bike path which was amazing. Gotta love bike friendly places!!
Team Gehart reunited!
We were about 10 miles out of Breckenridge when we saw the ominous clouds roll in. We’re not talking your normal rain clouds here…the sky turned black. In an effort to beat the rain we kind of picked up the pace. We didn’t quite make it however and had to stop for shelter at a local hospital that was just off the path.
Note on the bike path: So when I hear “bike path” I generally think flat, smooth, leisurely riding…you know, like the cape cod bike path when you are 9. Well this is not the case for the path we were on today. It was filled with some serious cyclists and it even had switchbacks with some crazy climbs! Only in Colorado would there be down grade signs showing a bike on a descent (rather than a truck on a descent…) Too much.
We were hoping the rain would let up due to the fact that we were supposed to camp in Kristie’s friends back yard, however, it only got colder and wetter as we got closer to Breck. Her friends were so kind and generous and let us essentially take over their house. There were people strewn everywhere as you can imagine. It was quite a sight. Even then we all didn’t fit so a crew of us headed over and stayed with Scott at his apartment. It was so awesome to sleep in a house, relax and even watch TV. It was a good night.
Sarah also stopped by to say goodbye to us with her parents. She had surgery on her collarbone and is doing well, other than the pain. It was SO SO good to see her but so hard to say goodbye. We’ll see you before you know it girl. Love you so much!
