Day 46 - Salida to Gunnison

The infamous Monarch Pass...

So a few days ago when I mentioned each day exceeded expectations of the ride before? That stopped today. We had yet another incredibly difficult climb today - Monarch Pass at just over 11,000 feet. The climb was only about 10 miles, but man oh man did I struggle up that mountain. I did the climb with Stephy and Heather and they truly kept me going - (Sorry I was such a brat girls - haha I was in SUCH a bad mood). It just felt like we were going nowhere and the traffic and cars were obnoxious. There was no consideration for cyclists on that windy, narrow rode, which always leads to more anxiety and stress than already exists.

A crew of us decided to stop for a breakfast break about 4 miles in. I was so relieved that others were not feeling the climb either...we all just wanted to get up and then down that mountain and to the host to get some sleep.

The second half of the ride proved to be a bit better, but we we
re all just fried. And of course there was the daily rain shower that hit us with just 5 miles to go. It seems to be a recurring event these days...

This about sums up how we were feeling today - this is outside a general store just after the descent.
